ANANTARA THE MARKER DUBLIN HOTEL TAKES INSPIRATION FROM CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY
Roald Dahl’s, ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ which is running at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre in Dublin has provided the inspiration for a memorable dessert at Anantara The Marker Dublin Hotel. Executive Chef, Gareth Mullins together with Head Pastry Chef, Sebastian Ritzen has created ‘Wonka Memories’ a dessert which will transport you to the world of pure imagination.
There are three main elements on this quirky dessert plate, a strawberry, lemon and lime soda drink, a milk chocolate, marshmallow and popping candy lollipop and a blueberry and violet, white chocolate mousse. Each of these elements have been inspired by signature moments in the famous story and film.
The blueberry and violet, white chocolate mousse, ‘Violet’s Blueberry’ was inspired by the iconic scene when the chewing gum obsessed, and rude Violet Beauregarde takes the magic chewing gum from Willy Wonka and blows up like a blueberry balloon only to be taken away by the Oompa Loompa’s.
Fans of the famous Roald Dahl story will remember the scene when the central figure of the story, Charlie Bucket and his grandfather drink the ‘fizzy lifting drink’ which allows them to fly around the chocolate factory and float like a feather, that scene was the inspiration for the strawberry, lemon, and lime soda drink, ‘Charlie’s Lemonade’. Finally, the greedy and bold boy, Augustus Gloop who fell into a river of chocolate inspired the third element on the dessert plate which is of course, a dreamy chocolate creation.
Executive Chef, Gareth Mullins said, “Christmas is a great time for classic movies, films and shows and when we heard that ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ was coming to the Bord Gais Energy Theatre we wanted to make something that would reflect the fun and creativity of the show. We hope that ‘Wonka Memories’ will help transport adults back to their childhood through lively and vibrant flavours. We also hope this dessert will add even more memories for children going to the show at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre which is right across from us at Grand Canal Square in the Docklands.”
The newly opened Forbes Street by Gareth Mullins, the main restaurant at Anantara The Marker Dublin Hotel serves the best of the sea and the land and is open for pre theatre dinner while the Marker Bar & Lounge is a great meeting spot for pre or après theatre treats and drinks.
